About the event
Join us for this workshop! Participants will learn about the traditional setup of a Mexican kitchen, including the use of trasteros (open cupboards) that hold plates and cups within easy reach. Following this, Danny Tepi will guide everyone in painting and decorating a mini-trastero.
Workshop Details:
A trastero, a staple in traditional Mexican homes, is a cupboard or open cabinet for storing kitchenware. During our workshop, participants will learn about traditional Mexican kitchens and paint and decorate a mini Trastero, complete with small ceramic pieces.
Workshop led by Danny T
Danny is a folk and traditional artist who works with various media. Raised in Puebla and New York, he developed a passion for crafts from a young age. Growing up with his grandparents, he was deeply immersed in Mexican traditions, and one of his earliest memories is his family coming together to prepare offerings for an altar honoring their departed loved ones. This rich cultural background shapes his artistic practice, allowing him to explore and celebrate his heritage through his work.
Free admission. All materials are provided. Please note: Space is limited; advance registration is required. The workshop is for adults.
This workshop is part of the Imagine Mexico: Art Enrichment Workshop series, made possible by the West Harlem Development Corporation, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and by The Mosaic Network and Fund (MNF).
