About the event

All participants must register separately. Each individual can sign up for up to 3 workshops in this Imagine Mexico series.

Please note that this workshop is designed for individual adults and is not intended for groups. If you are interested in arranging a private workshop for your organization, team, or group, please get in touch with us to schedule a separate session.

We invite you to join a workshop where participants will learn basic techniques for designing and assembling jewelry inspired by Mexican culture.

About the workshop:

Talavera from Puebla is a traditional Mexican pottery known for its vibrant colors and designs, often featuring floral and geometric patterns. This unique craftsmanship inspires our jewelry workshop, where we incorporate handcrafted Talavera beads and ornaments to create pieces that reflect the rich cultural tradition of Talavera while offering a modern, wearable art form.

In this workshop, participants will learn to create a jewelry set using crystals and decorative Talavera beads. No experience is required.

Please note: We will work with small components (such as beads and wire) and use hand tools, including pliers and cutters. This workshop requires steady hand-eye coordination and good close-up vision. If you use reading glasses or personal magnifiers for detail work, please remember to bring them!

Workshop led by Danny T

Danny is a folk and traditional artist who works with various media. Raised in Puebla and New York, he developed a passion for crafts from a young age. Growing up with his grandparents, he was deeply immersed in Mexican traditions, and one of his earliest memories is his family coming together to prepare offerings for an altar honoring their departed loved ones. This rich cultural background shapes his artistic practice, allowing him to explore and celebrate his heritage through his work.

Free admission. All materials are provided. Please note: Space is limited; advance registration is required. The workshop is for adults.

This workshop is part of the Imagine Mexico: Art Enrichment Workshop series, made possible by the West Harlem Development Corporation, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, and by The Mosaic Network and Fund (MNF).
