About the event
Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Nueva York presents its 12th annual Guelaguetza in New York City, showcasing cultural dances and expressions from Oaxaca.
About the Guelaguetza
The Guelaguetza festival is an annual celebration of Oaxacan culture held in Oaxaca City, Mexico, every July. The festival, known locally as "Los Lunes del Cerro" (Mondays on the Hill), occurs on two consecutive Mondays. Each region of Oaxaca, including the Central Valleys, Cañada, Papaloapan, Mixteca, Coast, Isthmus of Tehuantepec, and Northern and Southern mountain ranges, showcases its unique dances, music, and traditions at the festival. The festival's name comes from the indigenous Zapotec language and means "to give" or "to offer."
