The United Palace of Cultural Arts is pleased to present Andrea Arroyo’s “Goddesses at the Palace,” a large-scale, site-specific art installation that transforms the Grand Foyer of the historic United Palace with a series of artworks exploring women’s issues and inspired by the theatre’s history, architecture and surrounding community.

The first site-specific art installation in the United Palace, “Goddesses at the Palace,” integrates a series of large-scale artworks with the architectural features of the Grand Foyer.

The images, created in line drawing and cut paper, are inspired by real and imagined women from history and mythology and celebrate the beauty, power, and resilience of women past, present, and future. Arroyo’s lyrical style is informed by her background in contemporary dance.

With this project, the artist continues to explore large-scale drawing in the three-dimensional realm, transforming non-traditional spaces to invite reflection about the role of art in society.

"Goddesses at the Palace" is made possible through support from Creatives Rebuild New York Artist Employment Program. Additional support from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, United Palace of Cultural Arts, Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, and Mano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without Borders.
