In partnership with City Lore and with a grant from the Mellon Foundation, Naming the Lost Memorials (NTLM) presents A BIG, SLOW, MAJESTIC COVID MEMORIAL, a community public art memorial. Created with help from twenty-two New York City community partners, the memorial will be on view from May 3–June 3, 2024 along the fence at Green-Wood’s Main Entrance at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue in Brooklyn.
Dedication and Activation Ceremony
Sunday, May 19th • 4 - 6pm
Historic Chapel at Green-Wood Cemetery
Main Entrance on Fifth Avenue and 25th Street (500 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232).
Join us for the dedication and activation of the memorial in front of Green-Wood’s Historic Chapel. The ceremony will bring together the NTLM team and community partners for an evening that will include a procession, second line, traditional singers, and a participatory ritual of remembrance. We welcome all to join us in commemorating those who died of COVID-19 and remembering them together.
The activation ceremony will be live-streamed on City Lore’s YouTube channel.
NAMING THE LOST Memorials (NTLM) is a small team of artists, activists, and folklorists that has been curating memorial sites in New York City to name and remember victims of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Community partners are: Bronx Documentary Center, Casa Yurumein, Vishnu Mandir Hindu Temple, and BAAD/Health & Hip Hop, Inc. (all of the Bronx); Come Forever Mutual Aid & Health Resources Center, Guyana Cultural Association, Parent Child Relationship Association, Project Reach Youth, Purelements Evolution in Dance, The Bklyn Combine, West Indian American Day Carnival Association, and Women’s Empowerment Coalition of New York (all of Brooklyn); Yaffa Cultural Arts (Manhattan); Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts, Jews of Jackson Heights, and Epicenter NYC (all of Queens); and Archive Based Creative Arts, Health Care Workshop, Long Covid Justice, and New Moon Sisters (all citywide organizations).
