Access to Justice for Women and Girls in Mexico: Structural Challenges, Persistent Violence, and Institutional Responses. Diagnosis by the Federación de Mexicanas Universitarias (FEMU), the Mexican Federation of University Women.
This panel highlights key structural barriers that prevent women and girls in Mexico from accessing justice. Speakers examine the invisibility of widespread femicide, the undue credibility granted to confessed perpetrators in media and trials, and governmental inconsistencies in addressing forced child marriages, sexual abuse, and adolescent pregnancies. The discussion also addresses vicarious violence within civil and criminal law as a persistent form of gender‑based harm. Together, these insights underscore the urgent need for stronger, more effective institutional responses.
The Mexican Federation of University Women (FEMU) is a national organization of academic women that is part of the International Federation of University Women, the first organization of university women in the world, founded in 1919 with pacifist purposes. The organization has been working to develop women as a fundamental element in achieving the comprehensive development of people.
This conference is presented in collaboration with Mano a Mano: Mexican Culture Without Borders.
